The Greek word Nóstos means return: return to the land, to our roots, to our origins. Our private vineyards, trained using the Guyot system in Agro di Rapolla and Melfi, stand on volcanic land on the slopes of Mount Vulture, have a very low yield, and are harvested at the end of October.
The vinification, in classic red-style with the grapes de-stemmed, and maceration with the skins in steel at a controlled temperature, has a duration of 12/15 days. Aged in steel, with controlled transfer into barriques, it has a solid, concentrated, powerful structure, with a seductive natural balance, delicacy and clarity of expression, combined with the austere character to be expected from an Aglianico del Vulture.
A dark ruby colour, with clear hints of minerals and liquorice and almost iron-like and petrous notes, combined with aromas of Mediterranean scrub and black pepper. It has great freshness and energy, and a good amount of fruitiness.
On the palate it is warm, broad, layered, with a definite tannic quality, well-highlighted but not aggressive, with a long, sapid, vertical finale that has plenty of vigour. Served at 18°C, in a wide glass, it pairs well with red meats, game and mature cheeses.
